SimHeaven

SimHeaven is a legendary resource in the X-Plane community, operated by a dedicated team led by Armin. For years, it has been the go-to destination for pilots seeking to improve the ground environment of their simulator without spending a fortune. SimHeaven specializes in converting OpenStreetMap (OSM) data into plausible, region-specific 3D scenery layers.

Their flagship projects, such as X-Europe and the newer X-World series, replace the sparse default autogen of X-Plane with accurately placed buildings, forests, and landmarks. If a building exists in the real world's OSM database, SimHeaven places a representative 3D object in the simulator. This is critical for VFR (Visual Flight Rules) pilots who rely on looking out the window to navigate by roads, villages, and obstacles.

While the scenery is completely freeware, the quality often rivals or exceeds payware solutions. It is designed to work seamlessly on top of photorealistic ground textures (like those from Ortho4XP), adding the necessary 3D "height" to the flat satellite imagery.
