Prepar3D (pronounced "prepared," and often abbreviated as P3D) is the official flight simulation platform from the defense and aerospace giant Lockheed Martin. It is built upon the original Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX) code, which Lockheed Martin purchased and has been continuously developing for over a decade, most notably by transitioning it to a 64-bit platform (since v4).
While Prepar3D is officially licensed for professional, academic, and military training (not entertainment), its deep roots in the FSX architecture captured the heart of the home enthusiast market. As a result, it garnered a massive community following and became the go-to platform for a vast ecosystem of high-fidelity third-party add-ons, many of which were brought over and evolved from the FSX era, giving it one of the largest add-on libraries in simulation.
