Volunteer Hangar Moderators Needed
Add Airframes to the Flight Sim Aircraft Database
The Flight Sim Support Aircraft Directory was created with a clear mission: to give the flight simulation community a clean, searchable, unbiased index of flyable airframes—free from storefront politics, paywall drama, or forum clutter.
As the hangar expands across X-Plane 12, cataloging every airframe with precision is a labor of love. To keep up with the steady flow of new releases, conversions, and community updates, we are opening the hangar doors to a few dedicated Volunteer Hangar Moderators.
If you love flight simulation, appreciate clean documentation, and want to help curate a lasting community resource, we would love to have you on board.
What Does a Hangar Moderator Do?
This is not a traditional forum moderator role where you police comment threads. Hangar Mods act as aviation curators and data auditors. Rather than writing long essays from scratch, your role focuses on researching, testing, and validating aircraft data against a standardized schema before it goes live.
Our cataloging process follows a structured standard:
-
Primary Specifications: Cataloging developer credits, accurate category tags, propulsion type, pricing model, lifecycle state, and search aliases.
-
Fidelity Classification: Applying our community rubric objectively (Casual, Procedural, or Study Level) based on actual systems architecture rather than marketing hype.
-
Compatibility & Feature Audits: Verifying native XP12 features (AviTab integration, custom avionics/FMS, FMOD2 sound, VATSIM readiness).
-
Direct Sourcing: Linking clean download points directly to developer shops, independent hubs, or community libraries.
-
Prescribed Workflow: Following our step-by-step method and template system for auditing and publishing airframe entries.
Who We Are Looking For
You do not need to be a commercial pilot or an aeronautical engineer, but you should bring:
-
Attention to Detail: Comfort following a consistent checklist so every listing remains uniform, professional, and accurate.
-
Sim Savvy: A working understanding of aircraft categories, general aviation vs. commercial operations, and basic avionics setups.
-
Objective Evaluation: The ability to look at an aircraft realistically—appreciating great community freeware while accurately noting limitations or bugs without bias.
-
Self-Paced Reliability: Whether you verify two airframes a month or five a week, consistency and quality control matter far more than raw speed.
Why Volunteer?
Flight Sim Support is an independent, community-driven initiative. While this is an unpaid volunteer role, you will be:
-
Directly shaping an open, agnostic reference database built for desktop aviators.
-
Credited on the site as a contributing Hangar Moderator.
-
Working with an organized, streamlined pipeline that makes auditing and staging airframes straightforward.
How to Get in Touch
If you are interested in helping curate the fleet, send a brief message through the contact page:
Share a quick note about your simulation background, what aircraft you typically fly, and why you would like to help out. Once connected, we will walk you through the workflow and help you run through a test listing.
What about MSFS 2024 airframes?
Expanding into Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 (MSFS 2024) is something the directory would love to support, but it will take a team effort to build and maintain.
If you are passionate about MSFS 2024 and would like to see airframes included—or want to help catalog them please contact us.
