Seller & Buyer Trust Guidelines

Because flight simulation gear represents a significant financial investment, building trust between community members is our top priority. FSS does not directly process payments or handle shipping. Instead, we encourage sellers and buyers to work together using these friendly guidelines to ensure every swap lands safely.

For Sellers: How to Build Instant Trust

Getting your gear listed is fast and free. If you want to make your listing stand out and show buyers you are a legitimate hobbyist with the item physically in your possession, we recommend following these easy steps:

  • The "Proof of Life" Photo: We highly encourage including at least one photo showing your physical gear alongside a handwritten piece of paper. The paper should clearly show:

    1. Your Flight Sim Support username.

    2. The current date of your listing.

  • Be Clear About Condition: Flight sim hardware is mechanical. If your throttle axis has a slight jitter, or a button requires a firm press, just mention it in the description! Honest wear-and-tear is expected, and transparency helps your listing sell faster.

  • Be Open to Chatting: For high-value hardware, consider offering to hop on a quick phone call or Discord voice chat to discuss the item with interested buyers. Real hobbyists love talking shop, and it instantly builds peace of mind.

For Buyers: How to Trade with Confidence

Shopping for second-hand gear is a great way to build your cockpit on a budget. To ensure you are getting exactly what you pay for, keep these tips in mind:

  • Look for "Proof of Life": Check the listing photos for a handwritten note showing the seller's FSS username and the current date. If you don't see one, feel free to friendly ask the seller to send you a quick snapshot of the gear with their username.

  • Verify Functionality: Don't hesitate to ask the seller if they can send a short video of the hardware plugged in, or a quick screen-recording of the Windows Game Controllers utility (joy.cpl) showing the axes moving smoothly.

  • Use Safe Payment Methods:

    • Trustap & Escrow.com: If you are buying high-value gear (like replica cockpits, metal yokes, or expensive rudders) and require shipping, ask the seller if they are open to using Trustap or Escrow.com. These services hold your money in a secure vault and only release it to the seller after you receive and inspect the hardware.

    • PayPal "Goods & Services": For everyday transactions, always use PayPal Goods & Services. It charges the seller a tiny fee but provides you with full buyer protection if the item is lost or damaged in transit.

    • ❌ Avoid PayPal "Friends & Family", bank transfers, or unprotected cash apps for shipped items, as they offer zero coverage if something goes wrong.
