GLF550(AKD) Gulfsteam

The AKD Studio GLF 550 holds a notable place in X-Plane history as the developer’s debut payware project, bringing a dedicated, long-range corporate jet to a simulator platform traditionally starved of modern Gulfstream-style airframes. Based on the celebrated Gulfstream G550, the aircraft is powered by twin Rolls-Royce BR710 turbofans capable of carrying virtual executives across 6,750 nautical miles at altitudes up to FL510. Unlike the newer fly-by-wire G650, the G550 features conventional hydromechanical flight controls, giving simmers a direct, tactile yoke-flying experience paired with the signature four-screen Honeywell Primus Epic-based PlaneView flight deck.

Cockpit operations center on deep procedural automation designed for long-distance cruise and high-altitude step climbs. The package features dual independent CDUs, full VNAV profile and FMS speed scheduling, an integrated Vertical Situation Display (VSD), and a deployable Head-Up Display (HUD) for low-visibility approach guidance. Flight dispatch is streamlined via a window-mounted Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) offering SimBrief integration, performance calculations, and weight-and-balance loading. While its origin as an early indie release is evident in some interior modeling and system simplifications, the GLF 550 remains a capable and accessible long-range business jet for pilots wanting classic corporate operations without full fly-by-wire intervention.
